Please Be Alert – Petty Thefts in Monterey/Almedo area

The Monterey/Almedo area has had a number of petty thefts recently - bikes stolen, attempted breaking and entering, stolen iPad, rummaging through cars, suspicious “lookers”, etc. After the theft of an iPad from an UNLOCKED work truck on Wednesday, Feb 6, St Pete Police said there seems to be a ring in our area. They said the head of the ring just got out of jail and all of the crime around our area started up again.

Here is a description on the vehicle - a stolen Black Infinity with a yellow Alabama tag 29 DJ 866. A description of the occupants is that they are younger black males.

Call the police if a situation simply feels suspicious! Our officers are there to protect and to serve and we help them tremendously with our eyes and ears! WHEN YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING - Call SPPD at 727-893-7780! Please put that number in your Favorites on your cell phone.

As long as they can find our weakest link with unlocked house and car doors and opened garage doors…THEY WILL BE BACK! So please, please observe every safety precaution and LOCK UP, every single time! Don’t give these thugs a chance to ruin your day! They’ve already ruined a few of our neighbors days!

The Tampa Bay Rays are discounting $60 seats especially for CONA neighborhood association members to $35. Snell Isle is a member of St. Pete’s CONA (Council of Neighborhood Associations).

Let’s hope the 2019 season for the Rays out-does what they surprisingly accomplished in 2018 with a very energized and youthful team. Who knows, we really COULD be in the World Series.

Donations for Coast Guard Families Convenient Snell Isle Drop-Off Site

Our friends at St. THOMAS EPISCOPAL CHURCH (1200 Snell Isle Blvd) have made it very convenient for you to drop off any non-perishable or household supplies you’d like to donate to our US COAST GUARD families. As you know, due to the partial government shut-down, Coast Guard personnel, who so diligently protect our waters and borders, are not being paid!

For many Coast Guard families this is their only income. The Sun Coast is covered by approximately 670 active duty personnel. City of St. Petersburg is home to one of the USCG largest commands with approximately 220 active duty personnel. Below is a suggested list of items that could help during these difficult times:

Non-perishable food items: Snacks for kid’s lunchboxes, coffee, protein bars, health snacks

Cleaning Items: paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, bathroom and kitchen cleaning products, laundry detergent

Toiletry items: toilet paper, feminine products, toothbrushes/toothpaste for adults and children, body soap, shampoo, conditioner

Baby items: diapers (all sizes) pull-ups (all sizes for both girl and boy) baby wipes

The collection box is located inside the wrought iron gate (open from 8:30AM - 3PM, M-F) on the Snell Isle Blvd side of the Church. Turn off Snell Isle Blvd at the Canterbury School sign and once you are facing the buildings, walk to the gate on your right and the collection box is just inside those gates. Many neighborhoods and the City of St Pete are all offering drop-boxes for this worthy cause. We thank St. Thomas Episcopal Church for allowing us on Snell Isle to donate at their location.

The Mayor and City Council are asking city residents to consider donating items or gift cards to help those who protect our waters and borders – US Coast Guard. Collection boxes for tangible items are located in the basement of City Hall. Gift Cards – Please drop off gift cards only to the City Council Office at City Hall
